Carter Carburetor permanently closed up shop in St. Louis in 1984 and after much effort by concerned citizens groups and some hard working attorneys from Thompson Coburn, work is well underway to remove all of the contaminated building materials so that the process of full demolition can begin. For nearly a year now, Midwest Service Group has been removing the asbestos from this site and ensuring that it is properly disposed of as hazardous waste. Completion of this asbestos removal is expected to be completed sometime in the fall of 2014.
It is still unsure what the site will become once demolition has occurred and all of the debris has been removed. Cleaning up this site will no doubt make a big difference in the look, feel of the neighborhood as well as increase the value of the real estate in the area. It was an eyesore for 25 years and in recent times, it’s been a worry to nearby residents as it became a haven for drug dealers and vagrants.
The employees at Midwest Service Group are happy to be part of the solution and are looking forward to see what the site will ultimately be developed into for the betterment of the entire Jeff VanderLou neighborhood.
